The portfolio of individual contributor classes is aligned to WMCHealth’s Mission and Values. They reflect the core competencies of our institution and serve as the bedrock to our staff’s continuous learning, development, and growth.

 

All of these classes can be customized to teams or departments upon request. 

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

 

EFFECTIVE TEAM PLAYER

Purpose:  
As today’s healthcare environment challenges the notion of working in traditional professional silos and focuses more on coordinated, patient-centered models of care, working across professions as a team toward a common goal is more important than ever.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION

Purpose:
Strong communication skills are paramount to promoting positive patient outcomes, engagement, and satisfaction (*IHI). To ensure a patient-centered care environment, it is critical that staff is equipped with the techniques and tools to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and visitors.

PROVIDING EXCEPTIONAL PATIENT EXPERIENCE, ALWAYS

Purpose:
Providing excellent customer service and the human-level connection is critical to ensuring a positive patient and family experience. every employee at WMCHealth has the ability to make a positive impact on the patient experience, ultimately having a positive impact on patient outcomes, loyalty, and financial revenue. 

CONFLICT RESOLUTION 

Purpose:
Having good conflict resolution skills improves working relationships and enhances a patient-driven culture. By learning the skills to resolve conflicts in a more professional way, collaboration is built and a positive workplace environment is fostered.

INTRODUCTION TO UNCONSCIOUS BIAS

Purpose:
We provide the best care and create supportive work environments when we understand how the backgrounds, experiences, and values of our patients, our workforce and members of our community inform their views and impact how they expect and deserve to be treated. 

INTRODUCTION TO CULTURAL COMPETENCY

Purpose:
A culturally competent health care system can help improve health outcomes and quality of care and can contribute to the elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities.

PROFESSIONAL AND POSITIVE WORKPLACE

Purpose:
We encourage the highest standards of employee conduct in order to provide the best possible care for our patients and ensure a workplace culture of respect for everyone.

ELECTIVES

PUBLIC SPEAKING

Purpose:
This course provides tips and tools to speak publicly with clarity and confidence and with less stress. These skills are essential for leaders, especially as leadership responsibilities expand across the network. 

UNDERSTANDING AND DEVELOPING EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Purpose:
Emotional Intelligence (EI) leads to better relationships and decisions.  It is important to be able to manage emotions under pressure and those with higher EI are better at resolving conflict, particularly important in healthcare.

GOAL SETTING

Purpose:
Individuals who set goals are more successful than those who do not. It is important to set realistic and meaningful goals for yourself and your team members. Collaborating with your team members is crucial in setting meaningful goals. By completing this course, you will leave with tools and strategies to identify, set, and achieve realistic SMART goals. 

TIME MANAGEMENT

Purpose:

You may have heard of time management before, but what exactly does it entail? Having proper time management skills will allow for a happier and more productive work life. Although this is true, it is easier said than done. This course will provide you with clarity, tips, and strategies to have better time management skills. 

PATIENT-CENTERED CUSTOMER SERVICE

Purpose:

This training will define WMCHealth’s expectation for providing outstanding patient-centered customer service. We will discuss and share tips and tools to help an exceptional patient experience from “door to discharge” across the Network. 

 

BUDGET MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW

Purpose:
This course will walk you through our budget management system, StrataJazz Decision Technology.

MICROSOFT EXCEL

This eLearning focusing on Microsoft Excel is a great tool to help you create spreadsheets, sort data, and calculate information. This beginner's level course will introduce you to some of the basic features that Excel offers.  

MICROSOFT EXCEL: PIVOT TABLES AND PIVOT CHARTS

A Microsoft Excel PivotTable is a great tool that allows you to summarize and explore data interactively.  This eLearning course will explain and show you how to create basic PivotTables and PivotCharts.

MICROSOFT POWERPOINT

This eLearning focusing on Microsoft PowerPoint is a great tool to help you create presentations. This course will introduce you to some of the features that PowerPoint offers.   

MICROSOFT WORD

This eLearning course will introduce and explain the features of Microsoft Word 2019. This virtual training includes: explaining the parts of Word, shortcuts, best practices, and more advanced functions.

CRITICAL THINKING, GOAL SETTING AND TIME MANAGEMENT

This instructor-led training will show how critical thinking influences goal setting and the importance of setting SMART goals. Individuals will also learn time management tips and techniques to stay focused and accomplish their goals.

This instructor-led training will highlight how individuals use critical thinking skills with everyday tasks in and out of the workplace. Additionally, individuals will learn how to enhance their critical thinking skills.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT 101

In this course, you'll learn the fundamentals of project management, including how to schedule project activities, how to communicate schedules and deadlines effectively, and how to report on the status of projects.

MANAGING ESCALATING BEHAVIORS

It is important to recognize and respond appropriately to behaviors in an effort to maintain our safety in the workplace. In this instructor-led training, you will gain an understanding of how our actions can de-escalate or escalate the behaviors of others, while also learning tips to decrease potential harm.
