As a proud member of the Hudson Valley Access to Health Care Coalition, WMCHealth recently co-hosted the first in-person Annual Legislative Breakfast since the pandemic. The Coalition’s mission resonates deeply with WMCHealth’s commitment to equitable access to healthcare, and the event brought together elected officials, community leaders, and healthcare advocates to discuss critical issues impacting our region. Community members also were given the opportunity to ask state elected officials questions regarding the New York State budget. Key speakers included WMCHealth President and CEO Michael D. Israel, as well as WMCHealth’s Megan Baldwin and Coalition Co-Chairs Judy Farrell and Sherri Ehrlich. We also had the privilege of hearing from distinguished elected officials, including Assembly Member Amy Paulin, Chair of the Health Committee; State Senator Shelley Mayer, Chair of the Education Committee; Assembly Member MaryJane Shimsky; Assembly Member Steve Otis; Assembly Member Chris Burdick; and Assembly Member Dana Levenberg. We also heard from Westchester County Legislator and Sub-Committee on Health Chair Jewel Williams Johnson. U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand also participated via video message. Thank you to everyone who participated! Dr. Rosenzweig will succeed Michael Gewitz, MD, who for over four decades served in leadership roles at Westchester Medical Center/Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. Congratulations to Rachel Talley-Bruns, MD, of our MidHudson Regional Hospital for being recognized as a 40 Under 40 Mover and Shaker Award recipient by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce. After nearly 20 years as President and Chief Executive Officer of Westchester Medical Center and the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), Michael D. Israel will retire from his position at the end of 2025. The Westchester County Healthcare Corporation (WCHCC) Board of Directors has initiated a nationwide search for his replacement. In collaboration with a high-functioning executive team that he hand-selected to lead the organization, Israel steered a financial turnaround for Westchester Medical Center, helping lead the transformation into a Network that has grown to include nine hospitals and nearly 1,800 inpatient beds across eight counties and 6,200 square miles. Join us in congratulating Elyse Klingher, RN, a nurse at our Good Samaritan Hospital, for being named our latest DAISY Award recipient. Elyse, who works in the Family Birthing Center, was recognized by a patient for going above and beyond: “Elyse only wanted to know what I needed to make my stay at the hospital easier. Whenever I rang the nurse's bell, I did not have to wait more than two minutes before she was in my room assisting me. I felt like Elyse was with me all the time, and it seemed like I was the only patient on the unit.” The DAISY Award is presented to nurses around the world to honor their dedication, compassion, skill, and commitment.
