Primary Care Physician (Port Jervis, NY)

Summary:
This position is responsible for the management and delivery of specialized medical services. Areas of responsibility include the planning of a health care program related to the physician's specialty with emphasis on preventive health measures; the diagnostic and treatment of patients within the specialty area; the coordination of the physician's specialty with other medical disciplines and with other members of the health care team. Supervision may be exercised over a few technical, medical, or clerical employees.


Responsibilities: 

  • Plans the diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up procedures for the health care team assigned to the specialty, including routine laboratory procedures. 
  • Taking medical histories.
  • Performs physical examinations.
  • Prescribes treatment and/or medication.
  • Decides on case disposition, i.e., return visits, laboratory tests, nursing follow-up, referral to other specialties, etc.
  • When appropriate, prepare a health care plan for the patient with the appropriate member of the health care team (public health nurse, community worker, social worker, or other disciplines, if required).
  • Review patient records periodically to ensure proper completion of the patient's chart and medical care. 
  • Attending patient case conferences. 
  • Participates in continuing education by attending appropriate meetings, conferences, and lectures. 
  • Carries out assigned responsibilities as a member of the staff of the backup hospital. 
  • Maintains community relations to ensure effective and responsive treatment services. 
  • Performs other tasks as assigned. 


Qualifications/Requirements: 

Experience: 
Thorough knowledge of the medical area of specialization; thorough knowledge of the methods used in handling patients in a clinic setting; skill in the diagnosis of usual and unusual medical complaints related to the area of specialization; ability to plan and maintain an effective health program within the area of specialization, including integration of preventive, prophylactic and therapeutic objectives into the program. 


Education:
A New York licensed physician has completed a program of medical education and received the Doctor of Medicine (MD). Board certification or eligibility in internal medicine or family medicine is required. 

Licenses /Certifications:
Current valid license issued by NYS Education department to practice medicine required.

The Bon Secours Community Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is looking for a Medical Director for the Psychiatry Department. In this role, you would be responsible for Behavioral Health and Chemical Dependency Services at Bon Secours Community Hospital. The Medical Director oversees clinical services to ensure regulatory compliance in accordance with CMS, Joint Commission, OASAS, and OMH standards and guidelines.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides primary patient care on inpatient mental health unit
  • Attends court proceedings as needed for legal proceedings associated with patient care
  • Provides clinical oversight for inpatient detoxification and rehabilitation services including medication-assisted treatment
  • Serves as consultant and liaison with medical floors and nursing homes
  • Provides telepsychiatry services with St. Anthony Community Hospital
  • Provides on-call services one night a week and one weekend a month
  • Completes peer reviews with insurance carriers to determine medical necessity and prior authorizations for medications/care
  • Oversees compliance with electronic records and accurate billing for each encounter
  • Completes psychiatric provider schedule and ensures proper coverage on all BH units
  • Leads monthly provider meetings with BH leadership and providers
  • Attends and participates in Incident Review Committee meetings
  • Works with the administrator regarding policy and procedure, utilization, and productivity
  • Provides guidance and leadership for Performance Improvement Plans and Quality Initiatives
  • Provides leadership with Orange County LGU
  • Conducts in-service training and education for staff

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in psychiatry
Education: M.D. with board certification in psychiatry
Licenses/Certifications: Board certification in psychiatry, board certification in addiction preferred (must have within four (4) years of hire date)
