Have you always wanted to work in the Emergency Department but didn’t know where to start?  Good Samaritan Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth) is making it easy for you by offering a brand-new ED RN Fellowship Program. We will ease your transition to the ED specialty, facilitating your acquisition of clinical competence as an ED RN in a healthy learning environment that promotes relationship building utilizing a cohesive group model that is satisfactory to the ED fellowship RN. Strong preceptor support in a nurturing environment will enhance your adjustment to clinical practice.  

 

How it works:

  1. Six-month program with a recognition event (“graduation”) following the successful completion of the program.
  2. Clinical orientation time (individualized to orientee approximately 12 – 16 weeks) with an experienced ED preceptor.
  3. You will be assigned an ED mentor upon graduation (up to week 24).
  4. All ED-specific education, competencies, and certifications will be completed during the program: BAR, ACLS, PALS, critical care course, and ESI Triage Training.
  5. During the program, fellows will be scheduled to spend time in the critical care unit and potentially the Westchester Medical Center ED.
  6. During the initial weeks of training, professional development in collaboration with 1199 training and education will provide weekly didactic transition to higher acuity of practice classes.   

 

Requirements to participate:

  • Active New York State RN license
  • Current AHA BLS Certification
  • Minimum one year of experience in an acute care inpatient, non-ED setting (med/surg, telemetry, critical care, etc.)
  • BSN degree in five years if not already obtained
