Whether you’re looking for experience in the healthcare field, completion of a volunteer requirement, or just a chance to help out your community, WMCHealth is the place for you. There is something for everyone in our volunteer program with opportunities in various areas.
General/Year-Round Opportunities
General volunteers are those interested in volunteering at WMCHealth who are not involved in an internship program. In other words, general volunteers are mostly available and interested in volunteering year-round or seasonal. We welcome Mature adults, Retired, stay-at-home moms and dads who are community service-minded, have a little extra time to serve the community, and could typically do one four-hour shift a week.
Student Opportunities
In addition to volunteers who serve year-round, WMCHealth has a unique volunteer program for high school and college students to earn practical experience toward their future goals. Our student volunteers gain real-world, hands-on experience in the healthcare field. Whether they are looking to satisfy a volunteer requirement, support their career goals, or make a difference in the community, our volunteers glean benefits and skills that can carry them long into the future.
The Garden Ministry of Bon Secours Charity Health System is a group of volunteers, hospital staff, professional horticultural therapists, fundraisers, and community members who are dedicated to providing an opportunity to create and nurture the people-plant relationship and to use the fruits of that relationship to bring good help to those in need.
Located at Good Samaritan Hospital, The Garden of Hope is a state-of-the-art planting space, designed with food production, therapeutic benefit, and accessibility as its primary goals. We are driven to provide our patients, staff, and the community with the opportunity to reap the cognitive, psychological, social, and physical bounty that lies within our garden walls. Guided by the principles of horticultural therapy and grounded in documented research, participation in garden-related activity has shown to be beneficial in lowering blood pressure, decreasing pain and the need for pain-relieving medication, alleviating feelings of depression, stress, and anxiety and improving cognition, range of motion and mood. The Garden of Hope serves to be a valuable space of learning about respect for our environment and one another.
